paper mache clay recipe i used is made from celluclay instant paper mache, glue, joint compound, and some cornstarch
diy: paper mache kitty cat
Began by cutting out a rough shape for the body, legs and head. Added junk mail magazines to pad out the body and build the form up, attaching with masking tape. Once basic form is ok begin adding layers of paper and paper mache paste or watered down glue. Allow to fully dry every few layers. From there you can stop and paint, or continue on with a paper mache clay. I used a thin rough layer of paper mache clay, it was a sticky, lumpy and terrible recipe but dried hard. Once that dried completely I went back over it all with a smoother recipe of clay. After the clay was completely dry and hard I sealed it with a wood sealer and acrylic paint.

faux stone paper mache clay bunny
clay I used was a little too soft and easy to accidentally smoosh.
take a bit of paper mache clay, roll into a ball, using paper mache paste over the top to smooth it. that helps allow you to make indents for details without the clay tearing.
poke, pinch and smooth until you get a shape you like, then allow to dry on a piece of wax or parchment paper until completely dry.
once dry it shouldn’t be completely smooth. use a darker color paint to get into all the deeper indents if desired and wipe away the excess. add and remove layers of paint, until you get a look you like.
